https://github.com/simon-weber/gmusicapi/issues/673 is probably relevant. But if we can't keep using (the very excellent) gmusicapi then that'll be up to someone interested in integrating whatever replacement library is available. Also note that Google revoked our access to the regular YouTube API for Mopidy-YouTube because we didn't (couldn't) meet their terms of showing annoying adverts. That hopefully won't be an issue with YouTube Music if we restrict our usage to whatever premium advert-free offering they have, assuming there is a premium option but I have no idea.
I have no plans to update this extension for YouTube music. The systems are very different under the hood and we'd need to replace the library we use for interacting with it (https://github.com/simon-weber/gmusicapi/issues/673).
Additionally, very few people have stepped up to help maintain mopidy-gmusic outside small bugfixes (and as far as I know, none of them to maintainer status) and I have been fairly inactive here for quite a while (I started migrating to Spotify and self-hosted music ages ago, as soon as it was clear gmusic would eventually be sunset).
I also personally thing YT music is a huge step backwards in terms of usability (every time you subscribe to an artist on YTM you get subscribed on YT, playlists have a mixture of music and non-music, and your playlists are shared with YT - all of those I consider anti-features because I watch very different things on YT compared to the music I listen to).
I have heard rumors of ymusicapi in other threads which would potentially let you implement a new plugin, but I think the best thing to do here is archive the repo and let someone else build a YTM plugin if there's enough desire.
At this point, maybe it is more sensible to supplant what gmusic does with a Plex based music plugin.
The mopidy-youtube plugin has limited, experimental support for YouTube Music: https://github.com/natumbri/mopidy-youtube/issues/151#issuecomment-655877767. Can't log in or access your account, but can search and play, to some extent. YouTube API key not required, although some things work better if you have one.
@belak Are you okay with me going ahead marking this extension as deprecated and archiving the repo?
Yeah, go for it. Might be good to add a commit with some background information if you've got the time, potentially with info about a YT Music plugin.
Thanks for following up!
Will the plugin be adapted for YouTube Music? Google Play Music will be switched off soon.
