I seem to be interested in

EDUP EP-AC1605GS

That has good speed in the Performance_comparison

But I can't find it in USB-WIFI

Can this info be added? Or maybe just some info on Wich of the adapters it is on the USB-WIFI list

Thank you and best regards, Darkyere

USB-WiFi lists adapters and links for adapters that are supported by Linux in-kernel drivers. The adapter you are asking about uses an out-of-kernel driver:

https://github.com/morrownr/88x2bu

My suggestion is that users looking to buy a new adapter, give preference to adapters that use in-kernel drivers. Why? The adapter will be plug and play. There is no need to install a driver. The out-of-kernel drivers will result in issues over the long term,,, issues that will be automatically corrected for you with the in-kernel drivers.

I do include some adapters that use out-of-kernel drivers in some testing. The EDUP adapter you are looking at does have good managed (client) mode performance but if the same adapters that are in the test you are looking at are included in tests of AP mode capabilities and performance or monitor mode capabilities and performance, you would see a very different story. If you have or plan on getting a router that runs OpenWRT, get an adapter with a mt7612u/mt7610u chipset. If you plan on getting a Raspberry Pi, same. If you plan on exploring or learning monitor mode capabilities, same.

Questions?

Regards

No i think that explains it very well. I did honestly read the entire USB-WIFI.md intro and found the info about in kernel drivers very enlightening. I just didn't pick up that the EDUP EP-AC1605GS wasn't in kernel.

Ty for the quick response. U can just close this subject now ☺️

The document is rather long.

Some adapters are out of stock right now. There are some knowledgeable people that hang out here. They can give you good advice on what specific adapters would work best for what you are doing. Do not hesitate to ask.
