I suggest using rho instead of V where it appears (currently as subscripts) as rho is the variable that is actually used in the formulas.

I agree that it would be more consistent to use rho instead of V. Is there any reason not to do this? I guess rho implicitly includes N, not just V. Does that present a problem?

OK, but do we really NEED to be consistent with Reference 26 if it creates confusion in our manuscript? I don't think anyone would be confused if they checked Ref 26 and saw V instead of rho there but we used rho. I think we should focus on consistency with our manuscript rather than with Ref 26.
