It should uninstall itself on the next update check, which is every 24 hours or
so.

To be clear, what was installed with Google Earth is a product called "Google
Software Update" (GSU for short in
this response). GSU is a product that uses the "Update Engine" framework to do
its updating. But please note that
GSU is NOT the same thing as Update Engine. GSU is a product and Update Engine
is a framework component
(think Safari/WebKit).
The issue you're reporting is that *GSU* is still there, not that Update Engine
is (it may sound like I'm nit picking,
but it is an important distinction). And as was pointed out, this is not a bug.
*GSU* will automatically uninstall
itself the next time it does an update check.

As far as we can tell from our testing, uninstallation works as intended (see
the details about uninstallation
provide in previous comments). Additionally, we see no further comments stating
that the bug still exists after
waiting roughly 24 hours, so we assume there is no bug here.
