Ruby: have been a fan for many years due to its elegant and beautiful syntax with OO emphasis and enthusiastic community, but Node.js completely overtook this interest because of its superior performance, better package community (NPM), pace of development (including ES specs) and compatibility with my specialization (front-end development)
Python: clearly superior to Ruby in adoption and number of packages, but not a fan of its syntax with all those __foo_bar______(self)
Java: a nice language but I'm seriously put off by the corporate/enterprise culture surrounding it
PHP: one of the first languages I learned, very easy to get started with, but has lots of design flaws and shortcomings compared to other popular languages
C++: I'm put off by its overarching complexity, but C++11/14 made things much better — e.g. it's now much easier to port code to it from JavaScript; still too complex and hard to quickly iterate with for my tastes, and with incredible JS advancements, it's not as winning in terms of performance now
Go: absolutely love its simplicity and design principles, I wish it would be more widely adopted and not hated as much
Rust: not much experience with it but very keen on learning it more, although the weird syntax and complexity puts me off compared to Go
If so, what are your opinions about the other languages you've worked with?
