I also saw this. A solution: substitutions in fractions of hours? ("0.0036 hours ago", "0.48 hours ago", and so on)

mouse-reeve commented 7 years ago

I think our most natural-sounding solution is just ISO-ish stamps

mlc commented 7 years ago

or just "42 s ago" and "3 min ago"? (hours, days, and months naturally lack any troubling glyphs!)

I18N API Docs to consult

I can't think of an obvious way to contract units without dropping in your own function for formatting such indicators.

myshkin commented 7 years ago

Also, n.b. #32 is about wrong calculations, not formatting. Its buggy displays don't always occur, alas.

ah, I follow. I just got us up to Mastodon v1.2, so possibly that'll fix it @myshkin. If not, I think it's a Mastodon bug, not a bug particular to this fork

myshkin commented 7 years ago

So far, so good. I'll watch for its occurring again.

myshkin commented 7 years ago

Odd. My toot submission did show up in my "Origin" column with timing indication of "in 2 hours," but on loading my UI again, timing indication was rightly in my past ("1 min ago"). Probably a Mastodon bug.

I had a look, and think that a fairly straightforward way to go is just to wrap this with a bit of rgxp work to transform bad words into good. Alas, I couldn't trick mastodon into running on my laptop to try it out, but will try again in a day or four, if nobody can do it first.
