galaxies missing from the SGA-2020 #73

Open moustakas opened 1 year ago

moustakas commented 1 year ago

Lists of galaxies missing from the SGA-2020 exist in many different tickets and repositories but going forward they should be reported into only this ticket and, specifically, the following file: https://github.com/moustakas/SGA/blob/main/py/SGA/data/SGA2020/SGA2020-missing-galaxies.ecsv

Any objects listed in this ticket should include the following minimal information and I will add them to the file linked above periodically.

Consider including all the dwarf galaxies in the Karachentseva & Karachentseva 1998 catalog (or related)-- https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1998A%26AS..127..409K/abstract

E.g., here are some notes from Arjun via a report from Gary Poczulp regarding K61:

I did find that this paper Karachentseva and Karachentsev 1998
(https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1998A&AS..127..409K/abstract) lists the galaxy as K61 and
claims it is a companion to M81. It is shown in figure 3 of Smeecina et al. 2020
(https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/abc485/pdf). Looking it
up in the NASA Extragalactic Database, I get the following page:
https://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/byname?objname=KDG+061&hconst=67.8&omegam=0.308&omegav=0.692&wmap=4&corr_z=1

The velocity of 221km/s comes from Makarova et al. 2010
(https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2010MNRAS.406.1152M/abstract),
and this paper has some other details about this source.

I realized that most of these missing galaxies are caused by their diameters being missing or the objtype is set to 'g'. https://discuss.legacysurvey.org/t/siena-galaxy-atlas-2024-plans/9707
