Timeseries: Annotations not displayed if not present in initial timerange #330

What happened?

Annotations outside of initial timerange are not displayed on timerange change.

What did you expect to happen?

Display annotations outside of initial timerange when the range is changed and should include the annotation.

Did this work before?

Yes but not sure until when.

How do we reproduce it?

  1. Initiate timeseries panel, let's have a range e.g. now-1d...now

  2. Have an annotation query that returns some annotation in range now-2d...now-1d.

  3. Therefore, annotation query returns empty result for initial timerange.

  4. Change the range to now-2d...now, annotation query should return an annotation record

  5. The annotation is not visible

  1. in the video, there's initially last 4d range, you can see the annotation.

  2. Then the panel is reloaded with initial last 2d range. The range is then changed to last 4d but the annotation is not visible.

  3. Then again, the panel is reloaded with initial 4d range just to show the annotation is still there.

Summary: The issue describes a problem where annotations that are not present in the initial timerange do not appear when the timerange is changed to include them. This behavior, which does not match user expectations or previous functionality, can be replicated using a timeseries panel in Grafana v11.0.0-pre.
