Forgot to say: the previous version of Firefox for Android didn't have this issue.
I didn't mean to close this issue! Please can it remain open to get an informed assessment?
Comments most welcome!
I can also reproduce this issue in latest nightly
@SuffolkPunch This doesn't seem to occurs on Firefox Nightly (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.fenix). Could you verify this?
Thanks - yes it looks as if that sorts this problem. Gboard (v 9.8.06.328163918-release-arm64-v8a) now plays nicely with Firefox Nightly (v 201014 17:01 build # 20157696750, GV: 83.0a1) when used to enter letters in today's Pasquale Guardian cryptic crossword puzzle. Well done! Martin On 15/10/2020 at 3:53 PM, "Makoto Kato" wrote: @SuffolkPunch This doesn't seem to occurs on Firefox Nightly (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.fenix). Closing because Bugzilla was resolved
Steps to reproduce
Expected behavior
Launch FF 79.0.5 in Android 9 or 10 phone or tablet. Go to URL https://www.theguardian.com/crosswords/cryptic/28223 Tap on the first light in 8 across; type the 8 letters 'BADLYOFF'. The letters of the answer should be entered in the lights for 8 across.
Actual behavior
The first typed letter 'B' is entered in the first light, and the cursor moves one step right to the next light. The second letter 'A' is NOT entered in that light. Tapping the letter 'A' again still doesn't enter it. Tap the 3rd light, tap 'D' and it IS entered and the cursor moves one place to the right to the 4th light. Tap 'L' and it is NOT entered in the 4th light Now go back to the 2nd light (which previously blocked entry) and tap 'A' - it gets entered! Jump to the 4th light which previously blocked entry and tap 'L' - it gets entered!
This pattern of behaviour repeats: after you tap and enter a letter the cursor moves to the right one place, and tapping another letter fails to enter it there. However if you place the cursor at any other light, and tap a letter, it IS entered.
Note: Version 84.0.4147.125 of the Android Chrome browser doesn't exhibit this fault. So my work-around is to use Chrome for crosswords!
Device information
Both are using the default (GBoard) pop-up keyboard.
