3 years ago Opening an individual image in a separate tab also displays a black rectangle (click and hold on any image on the page, then "Open image in new tab" in the context menu). But the image is successfully downloaded. If I save it and open in my Photo gallery app, it will display correctly.

3 years ago I thought it might have to do with the Yoga Tab platform, but the Yoga tab 2 uses an Intel chipset, while the tab 3 has a Qualcomm chipset with the Adreno 304.
So my guess would be that it's not related to graphics drivers…

@andypillip are you sure your yoga 2 isn't intel based? Gsmarena seems to think at least some of them are, and it would be highly surprising for this not to be a device specific bug. Could you attach a copy of your about:support information?

3 years ago For those affected, I've ordered myself an intel based tablet and will investigate the cause of this bug. In the meantime you could try installing firefox beta or nightly, and going to about:config, and setting gfx.webrender.software to true, and restarting firefox.

3 years ago Setting gfx.webrender.software to true in Firefox nightly solved the issue for me. Is there a way to do the same in regular Firefox?

3 years ago Same issue here, will try enabling the gfx.webrender.software flag.
I'm using a Yoga Book with Android 7, and I think we can safely conclude this issue is related to intel-based devices running Fenix.

This happens to me as well, but I haven't figured out why yet. A temporary fix that works for me is restarting Firefox without closing the page

3 years ago The issue turned out to be that these devices claim to support a couple of OpenGL extensions (GL_EXT_texture_format_BGRA8888 and EXT_texture_storage) but are buggy when trying to use them at the same time. They fail to upload the image data to the GPU, so render black rectangles instead of images. This should now be fixed in Release, Beta, and Nightly - you can reset gfx.webrender.software back to false if you have set it to true. Thank you everyone for your help testing, please let me know if you run in to any more issues.

3 years ago I've read about this issue the last days, because my Medion Intel based Tablet is affected, too. Unfortunattly with V91.3.0 still the same ... no pictures, no graphical elements:
Fresh installation of Firefox incl. shutdown/ restart of the device including chache wiping.
Maybe this info helps solving this nag

I presume your devices have slightly different GPUs, meaning they still have the same buggy driver but I did not enable the workaround for them.

I can see that your devices have the GPU Intel(R) HD Graphics for Atom(TM) x5/x7. Previously everyone who supplied their about:support had Intel(R) HD Graphics for BayTrail so I had assumed the driver bug was limited to those devices. I will apply the workaround for your GPUs too.

and it seems all right, at first sight. In a short test, all websites checked have been rendered completely. fingers crossed
FF is working correct, mostly: Sometimes, if you change the tab or open a new tab, content in this tab will be all black with a slightly flicker of the screen. In that case, if you return to your previous tab, there's the same. Only workaround is to close FF completely and start again. As far as i see it's not related to a special website...
So, it's much better now, but not very stable

This only started after Firefox 91 upgrade. Many previous versions worked well.
I tried on both stable Firefox 91 and Firefox Nightly 93 with the same results.
Reinstalling and disabling any extensions does not change anything.
