Interaction Between Amazon Website on Firefox and Amazon App #19829

Open lakviewconsulting opened 2 months ago

lakviewconsulting commented 2 months ago

This is my first ever use of GitHub to report an app or website problem, and I'm not extremely tech savvy, so I apologize in advance if this isn't as clear as you would like or doesn't give you everything you need. Please feel free to contact me if you need additional information, preferably with specific questions.

Steps to reproduce

I'm not sure, but maybe what's described under "Actual behavior."

Expected behavior

There are some things you can't do in the Amazon app that you can do from the website (like buy e-books and print invoices for purchases). So, while I mostly use the app, when I want to do things that the app can't do, I go directly to the website via Firefox.

In the past, when I opened the Amazon website through a new tab in the Firefox app on my iPhone, the Amazon app may or may not auto open (I can't remember if it did that or not), but if it did and I returned to the tab I first opened in Firefox, I was able to stay on that tab and move around the Amazon website--including returning to prior screens--in that tab. I've been doing it for years and years.

Actual behavior

Starting with the update of the Amazon App for iOS to the version listed in the second bullet of the next section, if I go to the Amazon website through Firefox on my iPhone and click to go to another website page from the home page, the website sends me to the page I was trying to access, but in the Amazon app and I have to manually return to Firefox. When I return to Firefox, the app has opened a new tab with the page I had tried to go to originally, but because that tab is new, I can't get back to the prior screen. I have to manually close the tab(s) the app opened and go to the first tab I opened if I want to go back to a prior screen. If you're moving around a lot on the Amazon website, this behavior becomes extremely annoying very quickly and adds time to everything you're doing.

I'm pretty sure it would happen on my iPad too, but I haven't tried it.

Device & build information

Other information

After roughly a week of this, I contacted Amazon customer support and, after I explained the problem, I insisted the rep reach out to their IT department, which she did. She told me I was the first person to report this problem to Amazon. She assured me this wasn't happening with any other browser and they hadn't received any reports of this problem from other Firefox users. I confirmed this isn't happening with Safari and with Brave. I didn't check Chrome or any other browser.

From Amazon's side, they don't see it as a problem with the Amazon App, even though it was an update to that app that started the problem. They see it as a Firefox problem. That's why I'm reporting this to Firefox. If you come to believe it's a problem with my phone (e.g., my phone has a virus or malware or ????), I would appreciate you letting me know that ASAP. Thanks.

Hello @lakviewconsulting,

Thank you for your review. I also looked over this issue and it seems to be already fixed. I have tested it, on the latest Firefox iOS version 126.0 and the latest Amazon app version. Everything is working fine from my side, now. I am no more redirected to the native Amazon App. May you get the latest version for Firefox and Amazon and tell us your findings?

Thank you!

Sure. I’ll let you know when I’ve tested it. I’ve been using another browser since the issue developed and didn’t realize it had been fixed.

I know I still need to test it and get back to you. I’m hoping to do so sometime this weekend.
