The VPN app disconnects and the device loses internet connection until it's re-activated #7609

Description

Describe what is happening. The user connects to Mozilla VPN, and after a few minutes or hours (always varies), they notice the connection has been lost. When they open the VPN app to re-active it, their internet connection drops until they re-activate the VPN.

Does it impact functionality or aesthetics? Yes

Does this endanger users? What would be compromised and how likely is the threat? Yes, the user’s device is no longer protected since the connection drops.

How annoying is this for affected users? (Think about how much 'in the way' this is, relative to what the user is trying to do) Yes, the issue happens often and it becomes annoying.

Does it degrade the user experience significantly? Yes Is it legally sensitive? No

Connection, Server selection, Adding/removing device, Sign in/out = Core functionality. Tips & Tricks, Split Tunneling, Printing (Local Network Access), DNS, = Secondary functionality

Technical Information

Platform iOS FX product Mozilla VPN Version 2.15.1 Region/Languages Network type (Mobile and Wi-Fi)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the VPN app
  2. Select a server and toggle on button
  3. Establish connection successfully

Actual Results

The VPN connection is lost, causing their internet connection to drop as well. Gets fixed once they turn the VPN app once again. Then the cycle continues.

Expected Results

The VPN connection should stay until the user turns it off.

I can replicate this if the VPN is active, then I use TestFlight to change to a new version of the VPN app

We are unable to reproduce the issue as described in the ticket. We confirm the behavior described by Matt C in the previous comment.

Also, we were unable to reproduce this while updating thorough App Store.
