[Intermittent] “Download update” message redirects to ‘504 Gateway Time-out” page instead of Download page

Important details: 

• this is reproducing intermittently;

• we were unable to reproduce this using the 2.16 version on macOS; 

• reproducing on Production server as well; 

Version / build found in: 

• 2.12;

Reproducible on:

• Windows 10 / 11;

Prerequisites:

• Have a Mx account with an active subscription; 

• Have Mozilla VPN 2.12 installed and opened;

• Be signed in - Stage server;

• Be in Messages screen;

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the “Download the new Mozilla VPN 2.20” message; 
2. Press the “Download update” button from the message;
3. Observe the behavior;

Expected result:

• The user is redirected to Download page (https://www-dev.allizom.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/ ) 

Actual result:

• The user is redirected to “504 Gateway Time-out” page (https://stage.guardian.nonprod.cloudops.mozgcp.net/vpn/download redirect URL does not change to https://www-dev.allizom.org/en-US/products/vpn/download)

Jeremy Swinarton do you have any thoughts as to why the redirect could be sometimes failing? do we see any flakiness in our graphs somewhere?

Santiago Andrigo, the URL for prod is https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/ ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/ ) , but when the issue is reproducing, the vpn.mozilla.org/vpn/download ( http://vpn.mozilla.org/vpn/download ) redirect URL does not change to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/ ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/vpn/download/ ).
