slightly tweaking the color so it matches the direction of the training badge:
:+1: these are great! :dancer:
@carlacasilli @cmcavoy Where should we load up the badge information for this participation badge? This is the one that gets automatically triggered when a learner earns their first badge. Speaking of which, how are the STEAM badges getting loaded? Those are not on the canonical spreadsheet, I don't think.
This is quite random, but with the yellow shirt the person on the right can look a bit like a banana. Maybe edit the color of the shirt slightly?
Great work @iamjessklein.
Ha! I totally see what you mean!

The 'trigger' badges are something that we have to implement. We'll know more this week. We have the trigger system already, but it's usually activated by the API. In the case of STEAM and this badge, we'll be triggering from the award process. A small change.

Sounds good. Let me know how you want the criteria page information to be delivered for these auto trigger badges, ie. CSOL participation badge as well as the STEAM badges.
@emgollie - less banana-like?
❤
Less banana-like.
@carlacasilli we need to input these badges into open badger correct?
Yes, it's already in the spreadsheet in the STEAM tab on line 9: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnUOR-0CBMsTdHVfa1hENjBzaWZYOHRlUDN4Rm81X1E#gid=12

w00t!
This is now in the system, design and everything – @christensenep, @curlee, or @cmcavoy, can one of you help with assigning this badge to the account of everyone currently on CSOL? This can go to parents/guardians, mentors, and learners.
cc @carlacasilli + @threeqube as FYI.
Do we want this issued using the normal issuing process, or should it just be auto-awarded to everyone? Basically, should everyone just automatically have the badge, or should they get emails asking them to claim the badge?
If we go the auto-award route, do we want to have some sort of email to send out telling people that they got the badge?
The auto award option seems like it might be most frictionless. Emailing notifications and requesting learners to send earned badge to their CSOL backpack will not be as seamless.
Hey,
These were supposed to be awarded upon first activity within CSOL. But, with a little verbal finessing, we can explain that we're now awarding them at the conclusion of the experience to remind everyone of the great experience. So…WIN.
As for ways to award, I agree with Sunny: if we can simply send them out, that would be great. Protocol, however, may dictate the traditional route of notification. Consequently, if we use the tactic I've written about above, we're golden.
Auto award is fine. We set up open badger to allow that. Notification is fine, but additional claiming isn't necessary. On Aug 22, 2013 9:10 AM, "Erik Christensen" notifications@github.com wrote:

Alrighty, I shall work on getting this out later today.
Thanks Erik.

These have now been awarded to everyone signed up on CSOL. I didn't include guardians, as there is no way for guardians to see badges they have earned on CSOL (though it is technically possible to award badges to them). Since having a guardian account actually prevents them from creating a learner account with the same email address, it would be impossible for them to access them.
That said, I can go ahead and award them to the guardians as well, if that's desired. It's just not possible for anyone to notice that they were awarded with the way the site currently works, I don't think.
Nope, no need to award them to Guardians. Thanks Erik!

As per @carlacasilli, this badge is useful and meaningful in a few ways:
1) It provides a sense of community that otherwise depends on leveling up 2) it indicates activity w/o affecting progress toward a STEAM badge 3) It allows people who may participate during the summer but never level up to have a representation of their experience 4) It's a good reference point for people after the experience is complete 5) Virtually anyone can earn one
