Request for design for a paper bookmark #223

Open Fjoerfoks opened 6 years ago

Fjoerfoks commented 6 years ago

Goal:

I'd like to have a design to be printed on a paper bookmark as shown on https://www.onlineprinters.nl/p/boekenlegger-52x148mm?d=1&ci=&depvar_index_setparent=%3cPLEL244%3e%3cPLEL244.300...500%3e&depvar_index_set_1=%3cZPKH6C2E%3e%3cZPKH6C2EE00%3e&depvar_index_set_2=%3cZPKXXXXD%3e%3cZPKXXXXDD00%3e&depvar_index_set_3=%3cZPKXX34Y%3e%3cZPKXX34YY34%3e

Info:

This will be used to be handed out at events, put in the Data Detox Kit used in our local library, given away to local bookshops which in my case sell books in Frisian. Of course any local can change the word in the top bar to the translation of the word BOOKMARK in their language.

Style Information:

Size is 5,2 x 14,8 cm. Front side I was thinking about like the attached image bledwizer Since the initial idea was to use this for smaller languages I thought it would be nice to show a kind of Wordcloud with other translations of the word bookmark. Other translations are in this file, derived from https://transvision.mozfr.org/string/?entity=browser/chrome/browser/places/places.properties:bookmarkResultLabel&repo=gecko_strings.

bledwizer.txt

Backside almost the same, but with a more general (localized) text which expresses the mission of Mozilla and referrals to websites. Other ideas are welcome too!

Deadline:

Somewhere in November

Can this maybe use the design from L10n then? cc @elioqoshi @guerojeff?

gueroJeff commented 6 years ago

We don't have a wordcloud design because we didn't want to show priority of some languages over others. We also didn't want the risk of starting a possible geopolitical issue. You're welcome to use the mojibake Firefox graphic if you'd like.

Fjoerfoks commented 6 years ago

I already asked Elio, but he was to busy and pointed me to here. @gueroJeff where can I find the mojibake? Anyway, what do you personally think about the whole idea?

gueroJeff commented 6 years ago

firefox

Here you go.

I like the idea :-)

Hey! Here is the case study: https://ura.design/projects/mozilla-l10n

Here are the source files: https://github.com/uracreative/works/tree/master/Firefox%20%26%20Nightly%20l10n%202018

Fjoerfoks commented 6 years ago

Personally I don't like the design because (for me) it is not clear what the message from the logo is. I was hoping for some more ideas...

ioana-chiorean commented 6 years ago

@Fjoerfoks feel free to post this in telegram groups to gather more feedback or new ideas. Not sure how much attention gets posting only here so never hurts to promote it a bit

Hello, I feel that a general front of the Bookmark seems fine which mentions Mozillla and the Firefox logo(can be the L10N as well).

On the back of the Bookmark, we can go ahead with a single template which can be used for seperate languages which says something like, "Join Mozilla and it's Mission" or something like that, along with the links.

Also, rounded corners over sharp ones! :fist_raised:

Something I put together. Pardon my German, used Translate to write "it's your internet" and "Keep it healthy with mozilla.org". 😅

Ryuno-Ki commented 6 years ago

Normally we write Internet in Title Case (like you would do in English). The grammar and spelling is perfectly fine.

Just dropping a reminder here to check the status. Are there any more inputs required here?

pransh15 commented 5 years ago

I'll update the design according to this:

Normally we write Internet in Title Case (like you would do in English). The grammar and spelling is perfectly fine.

How do you plan to use these bookmarks and where?

The idea is to actually print it out as a bookmark. Maybe a 1.000 for a start. It's an easy gift to put in other handouts or together with other organizations in Open Source or language,

kindavishal commented 5 years ago

Sounds good to me! Which one have you chosen to go with?
