Review copy for the label under the QR code #2096

This is a follow-up from https://github.com/mozilla/addons/issues/14264.

The original spec included this UX:

It was noted by some of the engineers that the text "To get {addonName} on Firefox for Android, point your device camera to the code above or copy this link" might not be accurate instructions for some phones. It seems that for many Android phones, simply pointing the camera at a QR code does not scan it, and it may be necessary to use a different app. It also seems that Firefox for Android has some built-in scanning capabilities, which are described at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/scan-qr-codes-firefox-android.

A suggestion is being made to change this text from "To get {addonName} on Firefox for Android, point your device camera to the code above or copy this link" to "To get {addonName} on Firefox for Android, scan the code above with your phone or copy this link", and perhaps linkify the word "scan" and point to the SUMO article.

MeridelW has kindly offered to provide some feedback on this.

Thanks, Bob. When are you looking to land this string (i.e., what's the deadline for feedback?).

Since this is mobile-specific, I am going to direct the question to my colleague, Betsy (bmikel@mozilla.com), for follow-up. She is covering mobile right now before we transition the work to our contractor, Brian Jones.

We don't plan on having this live for at least a couple of weeks, so we have a bit of time for the feedback. Of course, the sooner we land it the sooner localizers can translate it, so sooner is always better.

Done, thanks @betsymi!

We have a second content question about this feature. The text that appears below the install button which informs the user that the add-on is also available on Android says: "Also available on Firefox for Android". @betsymi If you have an opinion on this that would be great to hear as well.

For context: this is a link that will reveal a QR code when the user clicks on it.

@betsymi Do you know if you'll be able to find some time to look at this? We are in a position to start running this experiment at any time, so we'd love to hear back from you.

Hello! Thanks for the nudge @bobsilverberg.

  1. To add {addonName} to Firefox for Android, scan the code above with your phone. You can also copy this link and open it on your device. Hyperlink: copy this link
  2. Also available on Firefox for Android. Add now Hyperlink: Add now

I've attached images to visualize both, but please do not consider these to-spec designs. It's only to show the strings in context and which words to hyperlink.

Thank you @betsymi!

@betsymi Oops, there is one more string I'd like your opinion on. We have defined an alt text for the image. This isn't something an average user would see, but it would appear when hovering over the image, and screen-readers would make use of it. Our current code has it defined as "Get {addonName} for Android", but that was just a best-guess placeholder. Do you have a suggestion for what we should use for this alt text for the QR code image?
