@alanmoo, do you know the best way to engage with the Mattermost folk to do this collaboratively?
Actually I'm more worried about lack of empathy in comms and less about information density. This is not a pleasing email to read IMO.

I'm guessing https://forum.mattermost.org/c/feature-ideas would be a good place to post something. My bet is that the email notifications were meant to be less commonly used, as things like push notifications get working, though I agree completely that they're kind of...lackluster, to say the least.
yes, friendlier and more empathetic design.
high level point: communication design is a critical function in a communications tool. How the information is presented affects how friendly the community it represents is perceived.

Emails are information-sparse and tough to parse.
