+1 on this playa!
Should we set up a meeting?

Jumping-off point: 12:04:32 PM ilana: what's the overall goal of hotdish, btw? 12:04:35 PM ilana: as a fun social tool? 12:04:38 PM ilana: or a research tool? 12:04:45 PM ilana: or something flexible enough to be both? 12:05:01 PM gregglind: For me, I want to use it to figure out what is sticky about collaborating in the browser 12:05:15 PM ilana: collaborating in what way 12:05:19 PM gregglind: And/or what is appealing about 'living in public' 12:05:24 PM ilana: ok, fair 12:05:30 PM gregglind: collab in what way <- exactly 12:06:07 PM gregglind: By making some behaviours 'easy' what to people do with it / what else do they attempt
Gregg's goals
Project vibe:
Gregg Non-goals
What I don't want to build
Cool - we are achieving critical mass in terms of a team. we should get Boriss looped in here as well.
I want to make sure Ian (who is actually doing the work!) is on board with what makes sense for his goals :)
My personal goal coming into this: make something we want to use. (I was going to say "I want to use", but it has to be we because the tool is useless in isolation.)
I would not say "users want to use" because we need to iterate too much to try to get feedback from some uninvolved users, and we need to think creatively based on the more accurate knowledge of our own intentions behind our interactions.
For its purpose, I would define it more in terms of the group of people I would expect to use it, rather than the things they would do with it. Given its vague technical concept, I am imagining these attributes for a successful group:
But the ability to dogfood this is by far my biggest goal.
A constraint: we shouldn't figure out how to deal with overlapping groups. E.g., my school friends and my other circle of friends, where certain activities might be applicable to both groups. We should only consider cases where an action clearly "belongs" to a single group.
Once done, document per #33
Constraint: we only support 10ish people. Doesn't mean we block people, but we don't design for more people.
My goals for Hotdish:
I want to make a simple, easy to use product that is transformative and useful.
I would like to make it easier for to stay in touch with past friends who live far away, but are working online. Hotdish could be a way for us to ambiently stay in touch, but being in the same "space" together.
I would like to make it easier to help my parents with any website stuff. Hotdish could be used for me to show them how to do things easier online.
Suggested goal:
Higher goal:
Is there a way to counteract and easily bridge our gradually disconnected world (due to technology) through the web and browser? (need to prove that this is a problem, and this should be solved through more technology, and this is the right solution)

My goal remains the same: I want something that I find compelling to use: productive and practical. This includes both positive things (it is useful to me, or makes me happy, or whatever), and addressing any negatives that make the tool uncomfortable or less useful. This is user-driven design, where we are the users we are testing on, right now.
How can we get people using this fast?
Tried to combine our goals here: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/hotdish
Before getting too deep into designing solutions for various bits, I think it would help to help a shared vision / consensus on that this is for.
This will help with evaluating solutions, and with prioritizing features.
