I think it's socks://username:password@hostname:port
(without the 5
).

Sadly, it comes back with a strange error I type in socks://username:password@ip_address:1080 and get socks://ip_address:undefined
Did you make a typo? That's the only way I can reproduce your error.
PS.: You should blur a bit more your IP ;)
It looks like I need 6 more characters. I deleted 6 characters off and the undefined message went away. The username and password are given to me, they are very long about 16 characters each. Then I have to put the port :1080 at the end.
The IP blur was a test at best (I can see it doesn't work hahahah)...but it's the providers proxy IP address and it's on the website so no real issue :-)

Oh good catch! There's a maxlength of 50 characters on the input... This is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed.
I found out that it has been fixed already in #2296. It'll be in the next release that should be out soon 🤞🏻. Closing for now.

It isn't. I'm on 104.0.2 from September 6th and on beta 105.0b9. Both still have limited input to 50 characters (at least on macOS). Is there a conifg file I can put the proxy manually igoring the extension input form until it's fixed?

Same here, the extension version is 8.0.7
There are multiple bug reports that have been open about this, going back about a year and they keep closing them with the same response (next release). A questioning person would say this option looks to be crippled on purpose for some reason (maybe to force the use of a paid service that is offered hmmm) but increasing the character limit of a field shouldn't take a year.

Why is a comment on my on question being marked as off topic?
@stillpointx
First, it's been merged and it'll be in 8.1 so that's why this issue has been closed.
Second, your lasted comment was marked as offtopic because it wasn't about the bug in itself but a question that was already answered when I mentioned it'll be in the next release of Multi-Account Containers.
Finally, it's flirting with the limit of what an acceptable comment is when unfounded accusations like "[a] questioning person would say this option looks to be crippled on purpose for some reason (maybe to force the use of a paid service that is offered hmmm)" are made.

I am using 8.1.2 and getting that error, too. I uri-encoded my strings. I use socks://username:password@ip:port
and tried also http://username:password@ip:port
Edit: It was an configuration error on my side. My provider got a dedicated service username and password for such cases.
Hi, I'm on version 8.1.3 and still getting this error!
Before submitting a bug report

I'm setting up Firefox containers which I want to use multiple different socks5 proxies for different web sites.
How would I put in a username and password in the field below? (where the red arrow is pointing to)
Actual behavior
Doesn't work tried typing in socks5://Username:Password@ip_address:1080
says "please type in valid proxy url"
Expected behavior
A connection to site through the socks5 proxy
