Simplify translation process for similar locales #2255

Bug 1688835

Bug Reporter: @mathjazz CC: @gaby2300, @milupo

For several locales, post-editing translations from another locale is a core step of the translation process, because they are so similar to each other. Examples of such locales include variants of the same language used in different countries (en-, es-, pt-* etc.), as well as related locales like hsb and dsb.

Let's use this bug to collect information about how does the process work for these locales, and what can we do to simplify it.

Some ideas:

  1. As proposed by Michael on dev-l10n-web, we could introduce a filter, which lists all strings translated to another language.

  2. As part of implementing bug 1325525, we could optionally include translations to another language in the GoodMatch™ indication, e.g. prefilled translation input box.

  3. Similar to bug 1267548, we could add a batch action to copy translations from another locale as suggestions.

Hi, after a long time I remembered my own proposal. :-) It's great that you didn't forget it. In https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/pm-projects/issues/352#issue-1999950007 I saw that this issue has second priority. Thank you very much.
