Since FORTRAN was originally executed from input cards, the original limit
of an 8.5 x 11 inch input card still applies. If more that about 30? (to
be safe, although the original number is hard to find) is found on a line,
it should be somehow broken up.
This plays a large role in variable such as ALSCHD, ALT, and MACH, as
those can be increased indefinitely.
