This is hardware issue and the technical term is 'palm detection'. See Barton's Blog for more information.
There is another blog post with instructions on how to fix this, but it didn't work for Mint 17.2 which is based on 14.04. Maybe it works for you.
thanks so much, will check those out
@solowt hey, did have any news about this issue? Thanks.
I didn't hear anything about this issue. I didn't try to follow those instructions because I'm not an advanced user and I'm worried about breaking something I don't know how to fix.
just upgrade to 16.04 - it works here without a problem
What is your kernel version?
Saludos.

$ uname -r 4.4.0-17-generic
@dahabakuk did you test with synaptic ?
anyone got a solution for this?
made a thread on the dell forum but no information yet. http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/f/4613/t/19657506
" want to disable the touchpad while typing. There is a setting for this under mouse options but it doesn't work.
Also tried
syndaemon -i 1 -K -d
also didn't work.
Is there a way to make this happen without installing new mouse drivers (which possibly seems risky to me)."
