Is this the number of proteins, or the number of protein groups?

protein groups. single accessions are in "ungrouped_proteins"

Rename ungrouped_proteins to total_accessions

I think it would then also make sense to rename "number_proteins" to "number_proteingroups", just to be completely precise?
