Add a _compatibility module for handling versioned dependencies
Fix copy mode for arrays.
Fix test dependencies for python 3.8.

@clpetix This should fix the NumPy 2 compatibility issues in lammpsio. Once you approve, we can merge and tag a bugfix version, then update relentless and make fixes there too.
