Understudy does not populate with Little Snitch active #98

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Little Snitch is set to give unfettered access to Front Row, but Understudy is
unable to populate it's
feeds.

What is the expected output or result?
Normal operation, as that which is achieved when Little Snitch is deactivated.

What do you see instead?
Blank feeds in Front Row/Understudy

Please provide any additional information below, including any relevant
URLs.
This problem seems quite similar to Issue 17. If there are additional
applications/system processes
that need to be given internet access for proper operation, please let me know.
As alluded to above,
Understudy works properly when Little Snitch is totally deactivated (and no,
leaving it deactivated is
not an adequate solution ;) I have reported this issue to Little Snitch's
developer as well.

Thanks for reporting this.

I installed Little Snitch and found that it would automatically create a rule
to deny
some connections from Front Row. You should be able to find it by filtering for
"Unapproved Rules". Additionally, the rule is for a Front Row process located in
/System/Library/CoreServices rather than the one in /Applications (it doesn't
have
the arm-chair icon).

Once I modificed that rule, Understudy was able to propagate it's menu's without
trouble. If you happen to be in contact with Little Snitch support, you might
point
this out to them - I believe it comes with a default rule for the Front Row
located
in /Applications

(if you're still having trouble, feel free to leave a comment)
