Unit firmware #1

Probably not the best place to ask, but do you have any firmware builds other than what's currently on the Startech website? I'm asking because I updated my USB2HDCAPS and now the RTMP stream gets jittery after about 12-24 hours. Does your unit have this problem?

andrew867 commented 7 years ago

Another off topic note, the iPhone app (haven't tried it yet) called iShareView was released by "AEverView Technology"

Hi there,

I don't have any builds for the box as the OEM appears to be dead, the e-mail you sent is the first time I've seen any firmware for this box, I'm surprised I didn't see that on the startech website.

I haven't actually used the box much lately & never for more than about 5 hours streaming RTMP so can't confirm if I experience the same issue, I will give it a try though & report back.

I don't like the rtmp streamer on the box either as it's purposely limited to 720p, the box is actually capable of pushing out 1080p fine over udp and maybe rtp (I've yet to determine how to trigger that via the cmd port).

I'll also look into that firmware & maybe hack together my own =D

S0UK commented 7 years ago

Oh the official software support for this box (USB2HDCAPS ) is such a disappointment. You literally can't even add a custom bit-rate on this thing; shocking!

I hope you work this thing out man, I really do as this thing is currently wasting away in a draw id love to be able to properly utilise it.

Thanks for replying to this - I'd forgot all about it!

From my messing with the protocol, you can set a custom bitrate. The software just uses pre-defined ones. The default on reboot [at least on mine] appears to be 18mbps, that is just for local network streaming though, I think the rtmp software on the box is limited to a lot lower.

I'll e-mail Startech and ask for GPL sources, see what they say..

Oh and @andrew867 - My device [with the original firmware] has been streaming a video & separate audio loop for 3 days without too many issues..

mpmc commented 7 years ago

Looks like GPL sources for this box is a no go too - Startech were less than helpful!

mpmc commented 7 years ago

I'll look into building alternative apps that'll run on the box, but not much else I can do with regards to the firmware. I've tried to break it down, but had very little luck!

S0UK commented 7 years ago

MPMC do you reckon this box could do 60fps @ 720P? broadcasting?

mpmc commented 7 years ago

@S0UK I highly doubt it, see https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/24242368/pl330-h264-hd-encoder-sigma-designs

But, I'll see if I can get mine to do it.

mpmc commented 7 years ago

@S0UK unfortunately I was correct, the chip is only able to do 30fps @ 1080p. I tried a number of ways to force it to output 60fps [at 720] - all of which crash the box completely.

S0UK commented 7 years ago

Do you think it would be possible to introduce Microsofts (Mixer.com i.e Twitch equivalent) FTL protocol along side the current RTMP version. FTL is now officially supported in OBS which is cool and makes the broadcast near LIVE, give or take a second vs RTMP which is much slower.

See here: https://github.com/mixer/tachyon

Also:

This is also the same device as REX-HDGCBOX2

and

Supercast T3

mpmc commented 6 years ago

@S0UK Sorry, I missed your message (again!).

Er, I haven't looked at getting other things running on the box yet, I'm trying to write a cross-platform app atm. Once I've done that I'll look into getting other things going on the box :)

Has there been any luck with this? I updated the firmware with what's hosted on startech.com, and now it only outputs a blue screen with garbled green mess on the bottom. Even a copy of the original firmware would be of great help.

What model/brand is it? Is the green mess via hdmi? I only have the Maplin versions. I updated one of mine to the Startech firmware and it's been fine.

mpmc commented 4 years ago

OK either I'm going mad or someone deleted a message saying they're getting/got a Maplin box?

gingerbeardman commented 4 years ago

Oops, that was me.

I have just bought the correct Maplin box (after buying the wrong non-HD one!). Arriving soon.

Does anybody have the CD that came with it? Useless or not?

mpmc commented 4 years ago

I think I still have a copy, but I'm not 100% as I cleared/recycled old boxes & junk.

The CD just contained shareview, vivastation and a firmware update app that didn't work right. You're not missing much, you can get it all from startech's site anyway.

Another mobile app

RATOC GameShare

It seems to supports English, Japanese and Trad Chinese.

It allows setting of source, resolution, colour, bitrate.

RATOC Game Recorder 2 REX-HDGCBOX2 is online at: http://www.ratocsystems.com/products/subpage/hdgcbox2.html

With support page at: http://www.ratocsystems.com/services/driver/visual/hdgcbox2_rgr.html

To download their files you need a serial number, but thanks to a diligent seller on Rakuten Marketplace we have one: HGC2R5430002 (image)

Download mirror: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/gi5c23uf8k034/RATOC+Game+Recorder+2+REX-HDGCBOX2

Also of note:

REX-HDGCBOX2 Windows users of “RATOC GameShare” who have applied the main unit firmware (v 1.5.32) should check this page and rewrite the firmware. Thank you in advance.

Though interestingly the firmware isn’t obviously downloadable?

Compare to StarTech, who provide a newer firmware v 1.5.38

gingerbeardman commented 4 years ago

Is anybody able to Stream (Twitch) using any of the iOS apps?

andrew867 commented 3 years ago

It looks like the successor company is Kworld out of Taiwan. I have mirrored their open FTP and have 32.6GB of data that may contain software and firmware for the HS602. Does anyone have storage space and like a copy to look through?

andrew867 commented 3 years ago

Here's another interesting note, this website lists AEVERMAX TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. as 51% owner of Kworld. AEverMax is listed on the App Store as the developer of the iOS app. There should be someone at one of those companies with more information on the HS602.

https://www.emis.com/php/company-profile/TW/Kworld_Computer_Co_Ltd__%E5%B9%BF%E5%AF%B0%E7%A7%91%E6%8A%80__en_2386398.html

mpmc commented 3 years ago

@andrew867 I've tried contacting kworld before & got no reply from them :(. I would however be interested in looking through the ftp archive though.

gingerbeardman commented 3 years ago

Ditto I'd like a look at the FTP. If it's still up, a link would suffice.

Firmware 1.5.32 added to shared folder link above.

Interestingly this firmware does not have MAC address hardcoded.

Startech firmware does, but encourages you to remember the MAC address before upgrade and set it again after upgrade using another software tool. Weird.

gingerbeardman commented 2 years ago

Kworld GM220 (Maplin version) and HU368 are both similar, but only Component and S-Video and not HDMI.

So can it only do 60 fps at 480p and below, or was there progress since this post that allowed 720p60 or maybe even 1080p60?
