Size of dots bigger for small searches #27

Closed RayLaurence closed 3 months ago

If searching for a small sample of inscriptions e.g. oracul - it is hard to find the dots on the maps. If they could be bigger blobs then easier to see or to use for a publication etc.

Obviously if get to 200 inscriptions problematic to have bigger dots

I've given a choice between marker size 1,5,10, and 20. Is that sufficient? I've also added greyscale mode. Smaller is smaller.

RayLaurence commented 3 years ago

I like these choices. Can I have a choice also to turn off the provinces background? In b/w if looks a bit strange with murky grey beneath

Feel like randomly launching maps on to twitter to see what effect it has on colleagues to see them, but would be good to add into for that purpose “Use this map suckers, only with permission of the good guys” or a statement of map authorship. Need to discuss with Petra…

Choose a different basemap. Also, take a look at the credit lines we put in the bottom middle (Also, don't forget that these issues are public. Ping me on teams if you'd like me to edit this)

@petrifiedvoices Want to discuss the credit lines and authorship... stuff?

petrifiedvoices commented 3 years ago

It's true we are crediting everyone but ourselves! Should we add a) how to cite us to the repo, b) one-liner to the map legend? We could go Zenodo route so we have DOI for the tool. Any other ideas?

Denubis commented 3 years ago

a) Yes, at least instructions on how to click the citation button.

DOI makes sense. We can push this as 2.0 now, then make an updated version for whatever final polish we do? And yes, we should have a oneliner. Where should we position it? The credits at the bottom are squint mode. But a huge text would be horrible for publication quality stuff...

Denubis commented 3 years ago

Maybe we should have a big "Agree to cite us, and we'll remove the large credit-line from the image" button... Tacky, but...
