Considering installing NTP client or something similar such as in this tutorial into the image as a way to update time on pis on boot by including another network connection config with autoconnect priority over the AP so that all the Pis can get updated times from a raspberry pi that acts as a server and has updated from something like a phone hotspot before turning on its own AP. Sounds a little cumbersome and would likely require a Pi on a different image if not one with at least some extra configuration.
I'm with you on the cumbersome thing :) the time issue only gets in the way for naming logs at the moment and I don't actually mind if I end up losing some logs while we are learning.
