take into account x-axis factorization of rungs and order of rung posterior (being rung1)

This PR contains two updates: (1) Adding clang tests for Nick's odd computer to show that DrJ passes tests under various Mac osx platforms; (2) allow beta "swap-rate" to be a vector instead of a single double
