Here are my thoughts:

HN: Finding useful information in Hacker News threads, like reddit, is often a chore. There's always way too much bike-shedding, off-topic comments, and angry people trying to get attention. That said, there are some pearls in that thread, but still, a lot of noise. I wonder if the best comments could be aggregated somewhere instead.
TechCrunch: Great article. I think it fits well here.
HBR: I'm not fond of this one. It's a bit light and arguably not "awesome". But, that's just my opinion.
Donation sites & OSS foundation additions: These are great.

Maybe you have different thoughts, @mrjoelkemp?

I agree with @rnicholus.

HN: the idea of a quality discussion around this topic would be a great addition. After reading through the thread, I agree that there is a bit too much noise. A lot of the comments seem to converge on "go work for a company that does open source," which is great advice, but that's the entire thread. I don't think there's a good deal of quality in that thread to warrant folks reading through it.

I do think that the question of "which companies would hire me to work on OSS full-time?" is helpful to answer. It might be tough to find concrete links for those opportunities in some cases. I added a new issue to gather some thoughts on what this section might look like: https://github.com/mrjoelkemp/awesome-paid-open-source/issues/24

Mozilla foundation: I'm not sure that this aligns with the other links on open source foundations. The Mozilla foundation seems to only focus on Mozilla products. The mozilla grants link is gold though.

The HBR article: seems to lightly reinforce some existing perspectives (commercial add-ons or support). It's nice to see HBR writing about it, but it's not an inspiring or fresh perspective.

I'll go ahead and fix up the PR to remove (though happy to discuss adding them back) the articles that don't seem to make the cut.
