What is a good model for distributing funds across maintainers? #4

If a project starts accepting payments from commercial use, how should the author distribute the funds so that everyone is happy?

Bountysource's Salt is made for this purpose. Looks like some projects are having some success with it. While I was on the Bower team it didn't work that well.
