Currently Translation Memory allows you to add only a directory containing PO files.
Poedit, instead, allow you to add a directory with MO files, for example /usr/share/locale//LC_MESSAGES. I suppose it simply run msgunfmt on MO files, then add extrated messages (in PO format) to database.
