UI Notes (keep open for any superficial UI suggestions?) #203

Started a ongoing thread for UI notes (superficial suggestions)...

* From XBMC Forum (continued): Regarding cancelling while choosing a
metadata option: on my side, if I move the cursor 1 second after it starts
loading (which would appear to be before the image loads) it still loads
the former selection. Maybe it would be good to switch the cursor state
and disable input, only while the image is loading, so that it doesn't
confuse people? Not my own personal concern, because I'm now aware of it --
just trying to help with a suggestion.

* OFDB could be titled OFDB.de in the Config screen for those unfamiliar
(as I was).

Just to clarify, are you saying that when you click on one movie, then click on
another movie, the details of the previous movie are loaded, but not the
details of
the latter? If so, I can't reproduce that at all. It will load the details of
the
first movie unless you switch before it starts loading the images (which can't
be
canceled mid process) then load the details of the newly selected movie.

No response in a week. Going to clear this off the list since there is nothing
more I
can do without more information.

I'm sorry, I had never noticed your reply.

To your request for clarification: Yes. Here is a little more detail:

If you're in the "Movie Search Results" (Popular Titles, Exact Matches, etc)

Switch between movies. Switch from one to another, which it's loading, and
although
you're now on a new movie, the former movie will pop-up as if it's being
delivered
for the current selection.

It's just a matter of cancelling the async call upon move.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "pop-up"... so, again, is the currently
selected
movie not loaded at all for you? Or does it just flash the previously selected
movie,
then load the currently selected movie? Also, are you building from SVN or still
running r422?

I really don't know any other ways to explain it, beyond what I've already said.

I've created a video screencam to make it easier to understand.

http://www.datawide.com/moviesearch.avi

Watch the first and third (last) switching between movies. Notice I start on
"Bank
Job" then move to "Any Four Women" -- but "Bank Job" is the movie/details
shown.
Alternatively, on the second selection, it's delivered correctly because it
comes
down so quick (no coverart). Further, the process of deliverying the newly
selected
data, is never triggered.

It's difficult to see in this example because IMDB is performing fast. There
are
times when the delay it 2-4 times as long as this, and that's when you can
really
see it.

Here's the issue: when the movie names are entirely different (like this
example),
it's not the end of the world, because the user can tell Ember just picked up
the
last movie. However, in many cases, the movies titles are the same. This is
what
happened to me the first time I was organizing my collection. IMDB had become
slow,
and I was choosing from a few different movies. I would select a different
movie
(same name) then close out the "Movie Search Results" screen, and the wrong
movie
was being selected.

Anyway, I tried to explain above that it couldn't be simpler -- upon row move,
the
async inet retreival needs to be cancelled.
