AsciiHero is an extension to help with authoring printed and digital gamebooks using AsciiDoc.

Features

• Asciidoctor PDF templates
  • It comes with several templates inspired by popular printed gamebooks such as Sorcery!, Fighting Fantasy and Proteus.
• Asciidoctor EPUB export
  • Your gamebook will also look beautiful on ereaders!
• Asciidoctor HTML export
  • Your gamebook can also be played in the browser like one would expect.
• Macros
  • It comes with macros to make it easier to structure gamebooks according to common conventions.
  • section to mark sections as a numbered gamebook section.
  • turn: to easily refer to the page of a passage.
  • options to give a list of options
  • enemy to mark enemies.
  • combat: to render a combat template with an enemy.
• Shuffler
  • It automatically shuffled all passages according to the chosen strategy.
  • Random
    • Sections are shuffled completely randomly.
  • SequentialRandom (needs better name)
    • Sections are randomized, but roughly follows the progress so that by the (good) end of the gamebook the user is at the back of the book.
  • Sequential
    • Sections are just ordered in how they appear.

I've implemented most features here as a proof of concept and it seems to be working well. I am able to create document remarkably close to Fighting Fantasy style gamebook.

I'm closing since it's now time to polish up the code and refine it to a workable tool.
