Prices: -system- screen does not retain (Absolute Prices/ Price Differences) selection #63

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
    Type: Enhancement Request
Severity: Medium
 Urgency: Medium

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. select a system in the Warp screen which takes you to Prices: <system> screen
2. select Price Difference (should it say 'Price Differences'?)
3. select Close (this will take you back to warp scree)
4. select same system, you will see absolute prices again

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

In previous versions the ‘Average Price List’ (now ‘Prices: X’) screen
continued to show price differences once selected; even after leaving the
screen or warping. In the ‘Prices: X’ screen, the pilot must select it
every time.

I have struggled internally about whether to file this one or not.
Fix it or not to fix it, that is the question…

Fix it:
I always select Price Differences because I need to know where profits can be
made.
It would be more convenient.
It used to be this way.

Not fix it:
However, working with relative prices means I never grasp the value of each
item. That results in me being clueless when a trader in space offers to sell
me an item. Is that offer a good one or not? I can judge that only if I know
the “usual” price of the item. Splashing the absolute prices up gives me
the opportunity to learn the usual absolute prices.

What do you think?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
      Dark Nova: 1.2
Android Droid X: 2.2.1
 System Version: 2.3.340

Please provide any additional information below.
Note: I cannot set the severity or defect/enhancement flags. Please change
them as you see fit.

Layout of the prices screen is being changed to accommodate for this.

The problem is trying to display the data so it is not confusing. i.e. should
we display the quantity available in the system or the amount you can buy?

Also the calculation changes depending on how much you can afford to buy - so
the complete screen changes depending on what you can afford. What was it on
previous versions?

previous versions show how much you can afford on the prices dialog that pops
up when you select something to buy. Previous versions showed how much was in
system on the buy cargo screen. I think you had it coded that way in 1.2 also.

Now I can see the need to display all of that info in place, but not present a
jumbled mess. I've thought about it and will post a proposal tomorrow after I
sleep on it some more. Like u said, this is a tricky one.

Just confirm for me that having no "buy cargo" screen in 1.3 is intentional.
It seemed pretty extraneous, but the amount of cargo available I system needs
to displayed somewhere. I have an idea how.

Please see the enclosed Prices: screen changes.
I've tried to provide all the pertinent info into this screen that we use so
often. I wanted the Buying and Selling of cargo to be very similar.
In this proposal, I mimic the visual layout and behaviors of the sell screen.
 1. Red column on left gives fine grain control of buying and selling
 2. Blue column on right buys/sells Max without popping a dialog.

Open this slide on your droid to see how it would look in game.
480 X 854 pixels at 72 x 72 dots per inch. (DroidX screen capture).
I'd say the font is a little big. That's good.
Using a smaller font for the buttons will make it look even better.

Hi Kalim, to add, thanks very much! Your screens are close to what we have
already designed and we look forward to your feed back on them.
