Tested with Mame4Droid: I have R-Type (Japan) and the audio works.. don't have 
Zaxxon, so I cannot test it.. are you sure you haven't just disabled the sound 
in the game startup configuration?

I have a working version of both Zaxxon and Super Zaxxon.

Zaxxon has sound.

R-Type Leo has no sound in normal MAME 0.37b5

Now, Drift Out - there's a game with working sound in normal MAME 0.37b5 but 
not in MAME4Droid.
