There's also Staticman, which creates completely static comments. I'm not sure how neat the workflow would be with Pelican, though – I assume you'd need to pull and build the site locally. With Jekyll, GitHub Pages takes care of the building for you when Staticman merges to the main branch.

I use utterances myself though. Not many people comment on blog posts anyway…
