Maybe a better statement would be: "Development is an art, create beauty". That way the creativity goes implicit in the "create".
I quite like create beauty. I think I shall use it
I'm not sure if it comes across, but I'd written the first two statements as different sides of the same coin. In British media dialogue, science is often portrayed as the opposite of art (wrongly IMHO - we all know that science is beautiful). Also, the rhythm of the first two statements are similar.
Your suggestion to use create beauty actually puts that across in a better way. Thank you
As an aside, I notice you're in Mexico so (I assume) you're a Spanish speaker. When the Manifesto is finalised in the next couple of weeks, I'd like to start thinking about translations into other languages. Would you be able and willing to help with that?
I agree with you, science is quite "artsy" too and has the potential of being beautiful also (we need to take into account that beauty in the broad sense is a subjective term, not everyone sees something in the same level of beauty, but we cannot deny that there's beauty in science and creativity and art).
I would be happy to help with translations! I can help a bit with german too, already forked the project and I will be drafting the spanish translation.
Brilliant, thank you. There's an additional point to go on (#4) which I'm hoping to do over the weekend. Then it's a case of getting the website up and running.
I'm going to change the structure of the project as well, so it's easier to find translations etc.
First let me say that I agree with the manifesto and it's a wonderful idea. That being said I don't agree with the second statement.
One has not to be beautiful, but make things beautiful or as you state strive for it or endorse it. I think a better more suitable statement would be: "Development is an art, strive for beauty" or "Development is an art, endorse beauty".
I also think that with this statement something about creativity should be said, maybe on the line of: "Development is an art, be creative to strive for beautiful" (I'm not really sure about the last one though). Let me know what you think.
