If you go by the coordinates as given in the verbatim locality, it should be

35.8569444, -106.4133333 with a 40m uncertainty in NAD27

How did you get those alternative coordinates? With what justification?

Hi John,

Thanks for taking a look at this. I realize those coordinates are in the locality string, which is about where I converted them to as well. Regardless, I am a bit suspicious of those coordinates because I doubt C. L. Thompson was using a GPS unit in 1986 unless he had some special government hardware. Regardless, if you look at the "verbatim coordinates" reported and plotted, they are clearly wrong at 35.5125018 / -106.2447967; http://arctos.database.museum/guid/MSB:Mamm:59340?seid=474483; hence my suggestion to edit.

Cheers, Jason

Hi John,

I have separate question about how the "submit issue" flag operates on VertNet. I realize VertNet uses GitHub, but I assumed any issues flagged would get forwarded on to the collections manager/curator of the relevant collection to assess and change as deemed appropriate.

Is that not the case?

Thanks, Jason

Forwarding happens only if a curator or other staff member is registered with a GitHub username and we have added them to their respective organization. Once that happens, assuming they set their Watch status correctly, they will receive notifications from GitHub when issues are posted. So far, nobody from MSB has responded to our requests to join the organization over the last couple of years. This is an unfortunate down-side to the system we've set up here because we cannot sign people up without their permission, so they have to do it themselves. We do, however, attempt to let collections know when issues have been posted and when there is no representative associated with the GitHub organization. Some times that results in registrations, some times it does not.
