"Currently you get skillups in parry and riposite simply by being hit (front, 
sides, behind etc), these skills should be increased only when you are 
getting hit from the front as that is the only time that they work. "

In Mob::AvoidDamage, we are checking to see if the attacker (other) is behind 
the
defender (this) before the call to Client::CheckIncreaseSkill is made. If this 
is
still happening, it doesn't appear to be in zone/attack.cpp.
