Another useful diagnostic may be to map certain quantities on the sky. We'd have to make some decisions here (sky projection to use?). Also allowing pixelization would be good, and we'd have to decide how to do that--user-defined (such as a DM stack patch) or determined from the data (healpix) or something else.

And @matroxel has just suggested we investigate plt.hexbin for this.
