It would be handy if the editor was able to periodically check for updates. Some ways this could be done are:

Check upon start-up (recommended)
Check every x days (settable in settings)

This could be expanded further and have the application download and install updates at you command.

A new version of Syntaxic is available, would you like to download and install it?

Definitely agree about checking for updates. This will be added before 1.0.

As for an auto-updater, that is in general a lot of work, especially across all platforms. For 1.0, I think we could have something where your browser is pointed at the latest version.
