4 years ago check out git-secret, it is available on apt, yum, and brew and allows you to encrypt repo secrets and decrypt them when using the repo locally

What should I put in place of our census API key in the public code on github? I want to be able to run all of our code from a makefile (I can write it as soon as our github page is more organized) but don't want to make our API key public.
