Keep it empty for minimalism's sake. Least work but not friendly to new website visitors. This would be like the lander page for private torrent trackers, where all they display is the login prompt.
Display announcements. This would be not unlike BakaBT.
Display "trending/hot/popular this week", "top X of all time", etc. This is done on my pretty much most list websites: for example, Letterboxd, Anilist.
Display a feed of updates. This is not unlike Goodreads and Facebook.
