Cant get IPv6 working with my ISP #775

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Hello,

Im trying to configure my RT-N56U IPv6 to work with my ISP.

After many attempts, I cant seem to get it working. At least get IPv6 internet
access (i.e. cant ping ipv6.google.com) I dont know if its a mistake of mine in
the settings, a compatibility issue or an actual bug with the router.

Here are the IPv6 info provided by my ISP:
http://support.videotron.com/residential/internet/ipv6

Ive set the RT-N65U as following:
IPv6 Connection Type: Tunnel 6rd
Tunnel MTU: 1280 (default)
Tunnel TTL: 64 (default)
Get WAN IPv6 automatically? Yes
DNSv6 Server 1,2 & 3: all blank
Enable LAN Router Advertisement? Yes
Enable LAN DHCPv6 Server? No

I've contacted my ISP as well and i'm still waiting on a reply. I believe
people are much more knowledgeable here so I'd greatly appreciate your advice
on this matter.

Thanks,

That doesnt work at all... are you on the ISP as me or a different one? I know
videotron doesnt offer native IPv6 but only 6rd.

To tibere86
Native IPv6 and 6rd too different.

To julioqc47
Native IPv6 (via IPoE and PPPoE), 6in4, 6to4 is tested and worked perfectly.
6rd is requires support from ISP side and is untested (I can not access to 6rd
ISP). 6rd settings obtains from IPv4 DHCP first and IPv6 6rd connection
established based on this settings. Also, 6rd can work in manual mode.

Indeed from the reply I got from my ISP, the 6rd is fully automated on their
side and should require no settings on my end. However, I cannot have v6
Internet access even tho I receive a IPv6 address.

I think I could be a bug with the router.

I have access to a IPv6 ISP, any way I could help you test out the system or
debug?

Thank you so much for the fix =D
I'm not really comfortable in applying the fix as it was provided. Shall I
assume it will be included in the next release?

Could you please see if I can use Charter's IPV6 settings with new UI?
http://www.myaccount.charter.com/customers/Support.aspx?SupportArticleID=2665#ip
v6prep

Currently (with 3.0.3.3-046) I don't see any place to provide their 6rd Prefix
= 2602:100::/32.

Without prefix, router gets ipv6 WAN address, but does not use it.
Ping (from router via putty) ipv6.google.com resolves to
2607:f8b0:400f:801::1010, but does not actually receives any packets.

To Adarsha.mv
3.0.3.3-046 can work with 6rd in manual mode only with mask length 32.
Auto-mode and any mask length can support in next build.

1) Set mode to Tunnel 6rd
2) Get WAN IPv6 automatically? NO
3) Set 6rd Border Relay (IPv4)
4) Set 6rd IPv4 Mask Length
5) Set WAN IPv6 Address to 2602:100::
6) Set WAN IPv6 Prefix Length to 32
7) Set DNSv6 server (any)

Thanks a lot Andy! the missing (and probably confusing) part was the step #5.
Charter calls it as 6rd Prefix, while the router page calls it as WAN IPv6
Address. Once I put in, everything magically worked. Thanks much. Looking
forward to new build.

Thanks a lot Andy!, with the new version changing these settings makes much
more sense. For Charter "Get all 6rd settings via DHCPv4?" did not work. I had
to select No, and enter the settings manually. But it must be like a child's
play to any one now with the new labels like 6rd IPv6 Prefix: and 6rd IPv6
Prefix Length.

Get all 6rd settings via DHCPv4? YES - is real work. I tested this. You ISP
must support 6rd or comcast_6rd extension in DHCPv4 server.

Hello. I have been trying to solve this issue since late 2012 but didn't find
it feasible to ask if it had to be a bug. Asked on several forums and no
solution. Up until I found this thread and I thought this was the final
solution for 6rd providers, in my case Centurylink. Followed step by step here,
compared to others' settings and nothing. In fact the instructions laid out
here came out to be identical to the ones I have left out on the modem for
months, but non functional. I tried the exact same settings on the ISP's modem
and they work, so I thought it may be the Asus router. Here are the snapshots
of my setup.
