No support for IP fragments on Playstation 3 #890

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect PS3 to router (wired or wireless does not matter)
2. Start PS3
3. Start "Internet Connection Test" in the "Network Settings"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The message "The router in use may not support IP fragments" should not show
up. Instead it does.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RT-N56U with firmware version 3.4.3.6-064 (micro)
Playstation 3 with the latest firmware

Please describe the problem as detailed as it's possible:
It is the same issue that was submitted as #277, link:
http://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/issues/detail?id=277

Have you tried any of the full versions of the firmware? With UPNP enabled, the
PS3 registers a perfect connection.

I've now tried with the full version and there is no difference. Why would it
be? As far as I know the micro build have the same code as the full build with
the exception that transmission, minidlna and such are excluded.

UPnP is enabled by default in the router settings and that's not the issue. The
PS3 also picks up UPnP fine in the "Connection Test".

I believe the issue is exactly the same as in #277 which I've linked to. The
problem in that case was a bug related to IP fragments (which is the problem
now again, apparently). And this causes restriction in traffic due to blocking
- which is a big no-no for online gaming. It works - of course - but traffic is
being limited in some way, when it shouldn't be.

Please look at the #277 issue for more info. The only other thing I can add is
that I'm using wired connection from the router to my PS3.

Happening to me too, bizarrely I'm sure this started randomly after no updates
to either the router or PS3. I've only had the console for a week, and I
definitely did several successful network tests on it when I first got it. Now
though it just gives the IP fragments error.

Sony released firmware 4.46 recently which should solve the IP fragments
problem. I can't confirm if it works since I didn't have the issue. I just
stumbled upon it and remembered this post so I thought I'd notify you.

Updated to the newly released PS3 firmware and it did fix the issue for me - as
well as for others I believe.

Case closed. No faulty Padavan firmware. :)

I had the same problem but found a solution... sort of. I just bought this
router so I'm still learning some things, but I have discovered so far that I
only get the IP fragments message on my playstation 3 when I have QoS set up on
my router. I know that QoS is supposed to improve your performance via
bandwidth control, but I think something is wrong with it, or I'm not using it
properly.
