No WAN link after update #891

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Factory reseting
2. Updating to older FW (both Padavan and official)
3. 30-30-30 hard reseting the device

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is to get an IP adress from ISP but instead the device only
displays No Link.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
3.4.3.6-064_full on Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Greetings fellow asus nuts! Yesterday I updated to 3.4.3.6-064_full with the
troublesome result that after update the router (RT-N56U) was no longer
receiving an IP from the ISP. In short what I've tried:

1. Firstly, made sure that the ISP works as normal (this means directly hooking
up a computer to the port--and it works).

2. Done a factory reset from within the router GUI.

3. Done a hard reset on the device. Both a simple one and a 30-30-30 second
reset (holding reset for 30 seconds, unpluggning the power adaptor for 30
seconds, plugging in the adaptor while holding the reset button for another 30
seconds. This puts the device in recovery mode and after that I've used the
Asus Firmware recovery tool to upload an official firmware.

4. Last step should indicate the firmwares that I've tried but here goes a full
listing:

- 3.4.3.6-064_full
- 3.0.3.6-061_full
- 3.0.0.4_360 (official)
- 1.0.1.8n (official)

Least to say, I instantly tried reverting back to 3.x.x.x-061 (this was the one
I had earlier and it worked flawlessly). What I haven't done and can't seem to
figure out is if there is a way to reset the device to remove ANY and ALL
things related to 3.x.x.x-064, to see if this will solve the issue.

I've tried another cable aswell as the official firmware seemed to think that
the cable was not connected. I have tried with another cable aswell.

This leads me to believe that something is terribly wrong with the router now
and I pray that I have not simply "bricked" it somehow as everything seems to
be in order, except the fact that the router does not seem to want to get an IP
from the ISP.

I really hope that you guys can help me out. Oh btw, there doesn't seem to be
any way to upload the syslog.cgi (the message Issue attachment storage quota
exceeded). So I've done the neccesaries and uploaded it to a pastebin and an
upload site. Links below.

N56U not support any bogus 30-30-30, this is bullshit :)

Custom firmware automatically reset NVRAM settings after upgrade from any
official firmware. No needed manual reset.

Оfficial firmware is needed manual reset settings after flash from custom
firmware.

WAN Link established by switch RTL8367 and all last custom firmares used
identical code for switch.

You needed replace WAN cable, link is unstable.

Hi, thanks for the response.

I didn't mean for there to be any bullshit, very sorry about this. But I
followed the steps for the 30-30-30 and the power LED did go into a "recovery"
mode type of blinking as the guides said, and the Firmware Recovery Tool did
seem to want to upload the firmware so not really sure what has happened here.

I didn't mean this as a way of saying that the latest firmware somehow ruined
my router, terribly sorry if it came out like that. I just wanted to see if the
experts here had any clue on what might have happened.

Coming home right now and reading the response I immediately went to the router
to replace the cable and noticed that the link LED is on now, having been away
from home for more than 5-6 hours and not touching the router at all. And it
works aswell. Upon further investigation of the cable I found small bite marks
on it. The culprit being the cat (soon to be dog food).

Again, I sincerely apologise for taking up time and forum space with this. Next
time, I'll replace the cable, even if the stupid cable worked with the laptop
directly hooked up to the fiber outlet.

Sincerely,
Ali (ashamed cat owner)
