this is working now. issue can be closed. (though its not doc'd too heavily.)

Yep. I've added a bunch of stuff to facilitate some of the slides bells and 
whistles. There's an example at 
http://code.google.com/p/io-2012-slides/source/browse/scripts/md/slides.md, but 
it doesn't contain all the latest examples of how to include stuff.
