Followed all setup instructions and simply - nothing works

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I have followed all the setup instructions and am using a jabber account (as 
just using Gmail account didn't work)
2. I just cannot get anything to work - I don't see sms or any notifications.
3.

What is the expected output?
SMS notifications

What do you see instead?
Nothing.

Additional informations:
GTalkSMS version = v2.2.2
Android OS version = 2.2
Phone model = Dell Streak
