REAPER on Linux (native) hangs when opening the GUI #223

REAPER on Linux (native) hangs when opening the GUI (using OpenSUSE Leap 15.0). The same thing happens using Carla VST to wrap Helm, both for LV2 and VST. Using Carla standalone works fine, also for both LV2 and VST. So, there must be some misunderstanding between REAPER and Helm.

Works without issues, that is Helm 0.9.0 (vst) & reaper 5.9.6.5 (linux64). Any feedback in terminal when reaper is executed from terminal and helm loaded?

the same happens to me with Ardour 5.12 in ubuntu 19.04 ... if "animate gui" is checked.. the entire system freezes every 3 or 4 seconds

it turnes out the issue was with the latest nvidia drivers (419) I switched to Nouveau driver and the GUI is now working ok !

Good catch! However, I'm using Intel:

OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2)

Bit still, this is a very good indicator to what the issue actually might be.

Just chiming in that I experienced the issue with Reaper 6.03 and 6.04 and Helm 0.9.0. The VST loads fine in Bitwig, but it wont open in Reaper. However, the GUI will also not load in Carla for me, whether Carla is run standalone or as a VST inside of Reaper. It will play sound, but the GUI is not displayable. I am also using NVidia drivers, but I do not plan on uninstalling them.

I'm running helm as VSTi plugin without Carla and works perfectly! have you tried it?
